Sapphires class talk with Hannah McKeand
Sapphire class were incredibly lucky to have a talk with explorer Hannah McKeand. She called us on Teams from snowy Norway where she is preparing for her next expedition to the North Pole.
Hannah is a Guinness World Record holding polar guide and expeditioner and, a highly respected expedition consultant, public speaker and an award-winning travel writer. In 2006 Hannah McKeand set a world speed record for skiing solo and unsupported to the South Pole, a journey of 690 miles that she completed in 39 days, 9 hours and 33 minutes. She went on to completed six expeditions to the South Pole and over 6000 miles of Antarctic sled-hauling, more than anyone else in the world today.
It was wonderful to hear about her adventures and how she became an explorer. She reminded us that she too was once at primary school and that we too could achieve great things. She even set a challenge to the girls: no woman has skied unsupported to the North Pole. Who knows, it could be someone from All Saints one day.
A big thank you to Hannah and also to Natasha Solomons who is a friend of Hannah's and help set up this wonderful opportunity for Sapphire Class.
