Today we spent the day learning all about the Hindu celebration of Diwali.
We listened to the story of Rama and Sita, acting it out for our Storycize gross motor activities, and retelling the story using puppets.
Then we made rangoli patterns (traditionally made with coloured sand, powder and flower petals) to practice our fine motor skills!
We also looked at how Hindus celebrate Diwali and made our own mehndi hand decorations, as well as attempted to put on a sari (we need some more practice at that one!) We also tried a selection of traditional party foods. We even tried some coconut milk!
Finally, after crafting and painting our own diva lamp holders this week, we took them outside to make a path of lights, just like in the story, to guide Rama and Sita home and banish away darkness!
Happy Diwali!
